JEWSON PLEDGES TO SUPPORT HOSPICES ACROSS THE UK July 10, 2009

Jewson, the UK's leading supplier of sustainable timber and building materials, has announced the launch of its new charity partnership with Help the Hospices, the leading charity supporting hospice care throughout the UK. Senior figures visited a newly constructed hospice to mark the start of the nationwide 'Together' charity campaign involving all Saint-Gobain Building Distribution (SGBD) UK & Ireland companies.

Peter Hindle MBE, Chief Executive of SGBD UK & Ireland and Managing Director of Jewson, presented Maxine Trotter, Director of Fundraising at Help the Hospices, with a huge bunch of sunflowers, the symbol of the hospice movement. He was joined by members of the head office team who were celebrating the start of this fundraising partnership with a 'Go Yellow' week of fun and of activities. The gesture symbolised the firm commitment between the two organisations to work together over the coming year in support of hospice care.

The pair then visited a brand new hospice facility within the grounds of Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry. They were shown around by Gill Young, Chief Executive of Myton Hospices, who will oversee the unit when it becomes operational in October 2009. Gill comments: "The Coventry Myton Hospice has been funded through a fantastic effort by the local community, the £6 million raised has helped build a new combined 20 bed in-patient unit and 12 place day hospice. The hospice has been designed to be an energy efficient and environmentally sustainable building and is a role model for a sustainable hospice. We are looking forward to working with Jewson and encourage other hospices to take advantage of both the professional and fundraising support Jewson can offer."

On viewing the hospice Peter remarked: "With the technical skills we can offer across the SGBD group, and our collective contacts with suppliers and customers, there are excellent opportunities to apply this expertise to support hospice renovation, refurbishment and construction projects so that more hospices can enjoy the type of sustainable future this new facility provides."

The 'Together' charity campaign launches across the UK and Ireland from July and involves branches being twinned with their own local hospice. Funds raised by the branch, and offers of volunteer help, will go directly towards providing local care and support for patients with terminal or life limiting illnesses and their families and friends.

Set up by SGBD in 2002, the 'Together' initiative has already raised £1.6 million for worthwhile causes and was recognised for its success with an MBE for founder Peter Hindle in the 2009 New Year's Honours List. This new charity partnership is the first time all SGBD companies are joining with Jewson and Graham to support the 'Together' campaign.

Peter Hindle comments: "Everyone is very enthusiastic about taking part in 'Together' and making a difference to hospice care in our own communities. Its a great opportunity to inspire people to do something worthwhile outside of our day to day roles. Replicate this enthusiasm by the 900 branches of Jewson, Graham and the other SGBD outlets across the UK and Ireland employing some 11,000 people, and you can see that we have the power to really make a difference at the heart of every community."

Maxine Trotter added: "We are delighted to be Jewson's partners in the 'Together' campaign. Local hospices are always extremely grateful for any support offered, and the added practical building and technical expertise which the Jewson team can bring opens up so many possibilities. It's a great pairing."
